 Workshop Assets and Reference Materials

Some reference materials from Scott to help you prepare. This does not all have to be mastered in advance, but will give you something to work on and something to come back to for further study.

For Beethoven 5, please find your favorite recording.  Mine is Carlos Kleiber conducting the Vienna Philharmonic—total rock and roll.

 Workshop Videos

Please do not share these videos. They are for workshop participants' review and study. Thank you!

Session Two

Session Three

We encourage you to be ready to play during the workshop if you like! We hope there will be time for some mini-coaching sessions and we'll be asking for volunteers.

Materials from Scott's workshop in June

Scott's first workshop gave participants a chance to get to know the San Francisco Symphony's principal bassist. We learned about his influences and inspirations, and how he came to symphonic music only after years of playing jazz. Scott explored Bottesini's first Elegy and along the way gave some great tips about bowing, harmonics, spiccato, and many other topics including solo tuning for the bass.

Check out the workshop video to catch up on what we discussed.

Music for this session was: Elegy in D by Giovanni Bottesini
