Join Destiny Muhammad and her musical colleagues to learn and practice the core building blocks of ensemble jazz, and then hear a live performance by the Trio. Participants will attend online, and observers may attend online or in person in San Francisco.

Special expanded workshop: 2-hour event includes workshop, masterclass, and performance!
Anyone who wants to explore the fundamentals of jazz, either as a player or listener, will want to be part of this innovative event. Workshop participants will play from home, with in-depth coaching and tips from the mentors on how to navigate the world of harmony, rhythm, and melody that create the signature character of the “jazz standard.” The workshop will be ideal for all instruments.
Listener/observers may attend in person or online.
Participants can download the music and watch the video below to become familiar with the song we will focus on during the workshop. But no preparation is required to enjoy the wonderful music of this accomplished jazz trio!

Destiny Muhammad is a recording and performing artist, band leader, composer, and producer. Her personal syle of Celtic to Coltrane™ is cool and eclectic with a feel of jazz and storytelling to round out the sonic experience.
Destiny has curated concerts for Grace Cathedral Christmas Concert Series, SFJAZZ Tribute to Jazz Harp Legend Alice Coltrane, and the San Francisco Symphony SOUNDBOX Series. She was a featured guest for GRAMMY Winner Kanye West’s ‘Sunday Service’, and she has shared the stage with jazz masters Marcus Shelby, Omar Sosa, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Azar Lawrence, to name a few. Destiny has headlined Bay Area ‘Women in Jazz’ Concert series, Sundays in the Redwoods Concert, Seattle’s Fest Sundiata, and ButcherTown Jazz Fest.
Destiny is principal harpist for Eddie Gale’s Inner Peace Orchestra, the Oakland Community Orchestra, and she performs with the Awesöme Orchestra.
Governor Emeritus and Education Chair Emeritus of the Recording Academy, Destiny is a dedicated educator. She is an ASCAP Songwriter Awardee, a California Entertainers Music Awards Female Jazz Artist of the Year Winner, an SFJAZZ Teaching Artist, a Bay Area Jazz and Blues Award Winner (BAJABA), and a Raise Karma Virtual Residency Alumna.

Eytan Schillinger-Hyman is an upright and electric bassist born and raised in a musical household in San Francisco. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years studying classical piano, and he recently graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory where he double-majored in Jazz Bass Performance and Sociology. He studied with Gerald Cannon and Peter Dominguez, and has worked closely with Billy Hart, Gary Bartz and Eddie Henderson. You can now find him performing as a sideman and frontman at household jazz spaces in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, The Black Cat, The Soundroom, Mr. Tipples, Ornithology, and Room 623.
Leon Joyce, Jr. (Drums and Percussions) has worked for a variety of top artists worldwide to include Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Scott Hamilton, Smokey Robinson, Norman Connors, Billy Harper, James Carter, Clark Terry, Conti Condoli, and Ellis Marsalis. He is currently a regular with The Destiny Muhammad Trio (with whom he headlined the Healdsburg Jazz Festival), the Leon Joyce Trio, Quartet and Quintet, Jamie Davis, Nicolas Bearde, and Guitarist Calvin Keys.
