Have you ever wished you could get out of your head and into your body when you perform? Would you like to turn your “inner critic” into an “inner coach”?
AMN is teaming up with the The Jazzschool to present a two-session workshop with cellist Barbara Bogatin who has been using meditation techniques to cultivate the skills in music practice and performance that have helped her embody a deeper musical expressiveness and ease. She’s been teaching these techniques to musicians for over 35 years and wants to help YOU build a more connected and satisfying music-making practice.

Musicians from all styles and genres will benefit from this active practice. All levels are welcome!

About the Mentor
SF Symphony fans and the AMN community know Barbara Bogatin as a committed advocate for music education. Barbara has been a cellist with the San Francisco Symphony since 1994. In addition to her symphonic career she has created a curriculum on Mindfulness Meditation for Musicians, integrating her training in Buddhist contemplative practice with principles relevant to music performance and instrumental practice.
She has presented seminars at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, One Heart Institute Summer Program, and Universities of Southern California, Indiana, and Nevada. Along with her neuroscientist husband Clifford Saron, she has given workshops called “The Buddha, the Brain, and Bach” that explore the intersection of meditation, creativity, and neuroplasticity, at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Esalen, Stanford University, Telluride Compassion Festival, and at conferences in Italy, Spain, Austria, and South Africa.
Barbara has published articles in the San Francisco Chronicle, Strings Magazine, Senza Sordino, and SF Classical Voice. She holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School.
