About the Mentor

Karen Mason created the role of Tanya in the original Broadway production of Mamma Mia and has had starring roles in Wonderland, Hairspray, Sunset Boulevard, and the first U.S. tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies. She’s also been called “the queen of the cabarets,” and has moved seamlessly from stage–Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and London’s Royal Albert Hall, among others–to recording studio to television.  A 14-time MAC Award winner, she received the 2019 MAC Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs. She has performed with many symphony orchestras, including the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Philly Pops, the New York Pops, and the St. Louis Symphony. Her seven acclaimed recordings include “It’s About Time,” an anthem for marriage equality; and “Hold Me,” written by Brian Lasser, which won the 1998 Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song.

Symphonic performances include the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Michael Berkowitz, the Philly Pops, the New York Pops, the Oklahoma Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Philharmonic, and the St. Louis Symphony with John McDaniel.
